On the occasion of Eid al-Adha!
Eid al-Adha – feast of sacrifice - is celebrated in 2018, from 22 to 24 August, exactly 70 days after the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. This main holiday of Muslims around the world is preceded by a 10-day fast, and its origins date back to the Koran and the history of the sacrifice of Ibrahim.
The angel Jabrail, who appeared to Ibrahim in his dream, commanded him to sacrifice his firstborn Ismail in the name of Allah as a sign of submission to the will of God. Ibrahim fulfilled the requirement, but in the last moment Allah made his knife blunt and Ismail was replaced by a lamb for sacrifice.
According to tradition, in Eid al-Adha every Muslim bathes the whole body, puts on festive clothes and goes to the mosque for a festive prayer. Then, on behalf of a family or a group of people, a sacrifice of a sheep, a sheep or a cow is made, and the meat is divided into three parts: one part – for a festive family meal, the other – for distribution to neighbors and relatives, and the third – for those in need.
The meaning of the holiday is that the performance of the ritual ceremony brings the believer closer to Allah, emphasizes his godliness and faithfulness. For pilgrims to Mecca, Eid al-Adha is the final stage of the Hajj.
